Workshop Sessions
As a central element of the conference we plan 40 workshop, review and networking sessions covering 21 topics of interest to the industry and related solutions around the conference theme ‘Imagine Tomorrow’. The workshop sessions are designed to create opportunities for you to exchange experiences and opinions on specific challenges and solutions and engage in discussions with your peers and experts on new solution developments and unmet needs.
Session 1 (June 16, 2015)
Session 2 (June 16, 2015)
Session 3 (June 17, 2015)
Session 4 (June 17, 2015)
Workshop SynopsiseCommerce: exploring the opportunity for life sciences/ healthcare manufacturers (Workshop)
eCommerce is fundamentally transforming the supply chains in multiple product categories in and around life sciences: In business-to-consumer (B2C) markets (cosmetics, vitamins, contact lenses, nutrition, patient assistance etc.) as well as business-to-business (B2B) markets (diagnostics, lab supplies etc.).
In this workshop, we plan to:
Lead logistics services: LLP, 3-4PL, control towers – today and tomorrow (Workshop)
"Lead logistics" are a reality in many supply chains today. Changing visions and strategies as well as trends need to be taken into account, to make ‘lead logistics’ ready for tomorrow, sustainable, reflecting a successful partnership.
In this workshop, we plan to share our views and case experience and discuss:
Specialty pharma - solutions for a high growth segment (Workshop)
Specialty pharma represents an increasingly important segment of the pharmaceutical marketplace. A significant proportion of new approvals in this space is projected to drive 5 fold increases from 2012-2020 when it will represent a market of over €300bn globally. Many of these specialty products are highly sensitive to temperature, high value and require specific, additional services to support patients and practitioners to ensure clinical outcomes and reimbursement.
This workshop will use case studies to share possible approaches and drive a discussion around supply chain differentiation, postponement options and the need for DHL to refine and complement existing capabilities. ↑ top Customs and VAT processes into Europe, Unified Customs Code 2016 (Workshop)
With the newly introduced Unified Customs Code -'UCC' in May 2016- as well as a defined list of new customs regulations, customs in the EU are facing radical changes. Additionally, cross-border shipments from a VAT perspective prompt challenges: Whereas customs in the EU are unilaterally applied in the EU, VAT-treatment of cross-border shipments are subject to national provisions, many of which differ by individual EU member states. In this workshop, we plan to:
Pharmaceutical channels to market within Europe (Workshop)
Choosing the appropriate channel or channel mix to market is a key decision to drive profitability and growth for a pharmaceutical organization. Direct models - whether across the portfolio or focused on specialist products- can provide considerable benefits from service to security, inventory to sales efficiency. In the workshop we will share some case studies to detail the different options and approaches and outline the benefits. We want to discuss opportunities to differentiate the channel mix by product and gather your input on future capability development priorities for DHL.
Global and regional impact of new cGDP regulations on supply chains (Review/ Q&A)
The new cGDP (current good distribution practice) regulations and the introduction of PIC/S and other similar legislation may have a dramatic impact on life sciences supply chains. This workshop will provide an overview of relevant regulations and regulatory changes, discuss key implications and potential solutions across the supply chain from primary transport to warehousing and secondary distribution through case studies. We are seeking our customers input on how to best serve the respective quality management needs.
DHL's temperature controlled air freight services - case studies, lessons learned, outlook (Workshop)
Temperature/ cold chain management is one of the specific key requirements of life sciences supply chains. In this workshop, we plan to recap the challenge of managing temperature in air freight and quickly review the relevant portfolio of DHL’s solutions (THERMONET, LS Freighter). The focus of the session is on lessons learned from case studies. We plan to close the session with an outlook and discussion on the way forward for temperature controlled air freight services. Medical devices supply chains (Networking meeting)
The medical devices supply chain represents considerable complexity and variation; from capital equipment including spares to implants including instrument kits and loaners sets to diagnostic equipment and consumables. This session will be in the format of a ‘networking meeting’ with selected ‘seed’ slides to scope and start break out discussions while providing ample time to network. Please join us to share and learn.
Leveraging network redesign to build an agile and flexible supply chain in a more and more complex environment (Workshop)
Life science and healthcare companies are more and more often facing limitation on further growth as well as steadily increasing costs. Together with rapidly changing markets and increasing complexity it creates an environment that sets the sustainable business success under pressure. In this workshop we plan to:
A collaborative approach to managing business continuity with Resilience360 (Workshop) The importance of finding savings from the supply chain and focusing on the core never was greater. Step changes may be possible by replicating best practices and innovative solutions from other industries. In this workshop, we plan to share and discuss selected case stories and discuss their applicability in the Life Science Sector, e.g., opportunities in the inbound supply chain often left to the supply base; maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) for the delivery of non-core items in support of production continuity; packaging from the world of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG); route optimization to balance service levels and costs.
Africa - investing in the future (Capability review) DHL’s ocean freight services for the life sciences and pharma Industry (Workshop)
The life sciences and specifically the pharma industry face ever increasing regulatory and cost efficiency demands. A key lever for a cost efficient global supply chain is the ocean freight transportation mode, but standard ocean freight services are not geared to comply with quality and regulatory requirements of the life sciences industry. DHL has worked out with many customers what it takes to make ocean freight work for the life sciences industry. In this workshop we plan to review our Ocean freight service offering for the Life Sciences Industry, along with discussing solution development opportunities and the dos and don’ts of transporting temperature sensitive life sciences cargo in ocean reefer containers. ↑ top How real time telematics solution can enhance visibility in your European life sciences road freight supply chain (Workshop)
In this workshop we will review the current state of the in-house telematics solutions for DHL Freight Life Sciences & Healthcare transport services and share further developments planned. We hope discuss and collect your input, notably:
Domestic temperature assured transport - requirements and case studies (Workshop) Medical Express, high priority shipments in medical care - extending capabilities in LatAm and Asia (Workshop) Collaborative supply chain innovation (Workshop) Making use of augmented reality in life sciences/ healthcare supply chains (Workshop) Global, regional and country-specific approaches to serialization to improve product security (Workshop) Additional supply chain services for medical devices; from kitting to rotating kits (Workshop) We are looking for our customers’ input on how to further refine and extend these services.
In this workshop, we plan to discuss the scale of the issue and some of the services DHL is offering to drive down inventory -from postponement to metro stocks- and quantify the respective benefits. We want to close the workshop with a discussion on the best ways to generate visibility and drive change.
